Velásquez Aguilera es un oficial de carrera de la Policía Nacional de Honduras, con más de 26 años de trayectoria, reconocido por su experiencia en seguridad vial, planeación estratégica y modernización institucional.

El nuevo secretario de Seguridad cuenta con una sólida y amplia trayectoria dentro de las instituciones del Estado, respaldada por experiencia operativa, capacidad de gestión y formación especializada a nivel nacional e internacional. En el año 2021, ostentó el cargo de director nacional de Vialidad y Transporte (DNVT), desde donde lideró importantes procesos de evaluación y análisis técnico orientados a la formulación de una nueva Ley de Tránsito, con el objetivo de modernizar el marco legal y fortalecer la seguridad vial en el país.

Durante su gestión en la DNVT, también desempeñó un papel clave en la coordinación de operativos de rescate y atención de emergencias derivadas de fenómenos naturales, entre ellos la devastadora tormenta Eta, demostrando liderazgo, capacidad de respuesta y articulación interinstitucional en momentos críticos para la población hondureña.

Asimismo, se desempeñó como director de Planeamiento, Procedimientos Operativos y Mejora Continua dentro de la Policía Nacional, un cargo estratégico enfocado en la modernización institucional, la optimización de los procesos operativos y el fortalecimiento de la eficiencia policial. Desde esta posición, impulsó mejoras orientadas a elevar los estándares de desempeño, planificación y control interno, contribuyendo al fortalecimiento de la seguridad ciudadana.

En el ámbito académico y profesional, el nuevo secretario de Seguridad es egresado de la 14ª promoción de la Academia Nacional de Policía (ANAPO), y cuenta con formación especializada en el Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) en los Estados Unidos, así como capacitación avanzada en centros de perfeccionamiento para altos ejecutivos policiales en el Reino Unido. Esta preparación internacional le ha permitido adquirir conocimientos estratégicos en inteligencia, liderazgo, gestión del riesgo y modernización policial.

Su perfil combina experiencia operativa, visión estratégica y preparación técnica, elementos que respaldan su nombramiento y refuerzan el compromiso del Estado con el fortalecimiento de la seguridad, la institucionalidad y la protección de la ciudadanía.

Un juez competente ordenó la suspensión inmediata del cargo de la diputada Isis Cuéllar, como parte de las medidas cautelares dictadas dentro del proceso judicial que se instruye en su contra, en el marco del denominado caso Chequesol.

De acuerdo con la resolución judicial, la suspensión como parlamentaria —a pesar de haber sido recientemente electa por el departamento de Copán— tiene como finalidad evitar cualquier posible influencia política o institucional que pudiera interferir en el desarrollo normal de la investigación penal. Alerta por crecidas en el norte del país

Fuertes crecidas de ríos y quebradas se reportan este día en Tela, como consecuencia de las intensas lluvias que han azotado el departamento de Honduras en las últimas horas.

Las precipitaciones han provocado acumulación de agua en distintos sectores, generando preocupación entre los pobladores, especialmente en las zonas más vulnerables y de alto riesgo. Varias comunidades se mantienen en vigilancia ante la posibilidad de desbordamientos, inundaciones repentinas y deslizamientos de tierra.

Ante este escenario, las autoridades mantienen al departamento de Atlántida bajo Alerta Amarilla por un período de 72 horas, como medida preventiva para salvaguardar la vida de la población y reducir riesgos. Se recomienda a los habitantes extremar precauciones, evitar cruzar ríos o quebradas crecidas y mantenerse atentos a los comunicados oficiales.

El conductor fue puesto ante el Ministerio Público, donde enfrentará cargos por homicidio imprudente, lesiones y daños, este delito contempla penas de entre tres y siete años de prisión, aunque la sanción final dependerá del desarrollo del proceso judicial, agregó Hernández.

“El accidente se origina por la imprudencia del bus, que viajaba a una velocidad no prudente. Adelante de él, un vehículo redujo su velocidad para ingresar a un cruce, lo que provocó que el conductor del autobús no pudiera frenar a tiempo”, explicó el uniformado.

Asimismo, agregó que ante la reducción repentina de velocidad del vehículo que iba delante, el conductor del bus intentó evitar un choque realizando una maniobra evasiva hacia la izquierda.

“En ese instante venía pasando la patrulla; colisiona de forma lateral y eso hace que el conductor de la radiopatrulla pierda el dominio de la misma”, explicó el oficial, la patrulla policial, salió de la carretera, chocó con un poste del tendido eléctrico y después volcó en varias ocasiones, lamentó Hernández

El aparatoso accidente dejó como saldo cuatro personas muertas y ocho heridos. Entre las víctimas fueron identificadas como Leydi Licona Cáceres, José Henry Pérez Zaldívar, Isaías Gutiérrez Fúnez y Yury Benítez Mejía.

Por otro lado, también se dio detalles del estado de salud de los oficiales lesionados, dos ya fueron dados de alta, otros dos permanecen en estado delicado y dos más se encuentran estables y conscientes, según el informe policial.

Como resultado del operativo, las autoridades lograron el importante rescate de una persona que había sido privada de su libertad, quien, según información preliminar, se desempeñaba como despachador de la ruta de buses de la colonia Ebenezer. La víctima habría sido secuestrada horas antes y mantenida en cautiverio dentro de una vivienda abandonada de la zona.

De acuerdo con reportes oficiales, al momento de ejecutar la operación de rescate, los uniformados fueron recibidos a disparos por los supuestos pandilleros, lo que provocó un enfrentamiento armado que convirtió el sector en un verdadero campo de batalla. Tras repeler el ataque, los agentes lograron asegurar el área y poner a salvo a la persona secuestrada.

La vivienda donde se encontraba retenida la víctima fue asegurada por las autoridades, mientras equipos policiales realizaron un amplio despliegue en la colonia Chamelecón para dar con el paradero de los implicados, quienes habrían logrado huir del lugar tras el intercambio de disparos.

Hasta el momento, la Policía Nacional no ha confirmado capturas ni heridos, pero aseguró que las operaciones continúan en la zona como parte de las acciones para combatir el crimen organizado y garantizar la seguridad de los habitantes del sector.

Las investigaciones siguen en curso y se espera que en las próximas horas las autoridades brinden un informe oficial con mayores detalles sobre este hecho violento que mantiene en alerta a los pobladores del sector norte del país.
